The Vaccine Story

Ok so going to jump in with both feet on this one.

I had originally just put this study at the bottom under, things I've recently found...but it deserves to be front and centre and in fact my result in me writing another blog on vaccines.  The statistics in this study are mind blowing!  Totally back everything up that I say below...that in fact vaccines did not stop the disease, vaccines in fact caused some diseases to return, and their saftey needs to be put into question immediately!  READ IT-then if you still need convincing come back and read the blog.

Anyone who has ever even snuck a peak at my Face book page is well aware of the fact that I am quite anti-vaccine.  What most of you don't know is the why and how I came to really really believe that they are causing us more harm then the good they were originally aimed at.

So here goes.  The backgrounder.  As a mom in my early years of motherhood, I totally believed in vaccinating my kids.  I was one of those people who thought that parents who didn't vaccinate their kids were in effect abusing their kids.  If I knew your child wasn't vaccinated I told my kids to stay away as if your child was carrying the plague and would share it with my child.  Yeppppppers that was me 13+/- years ago.

Then....we took Cassidy in for her 18 month shots.  Those immunizations included the Measles Mumps and Rubella vaccinations, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio and Haemophilus B vaccinations.  So 7 different vaccinations in one day.

When she had her other shots, she had some "normal reactions" like a mild fever and fussiness.  This time around it was quite different.  For 2 days straight everything that went in, came right back out within about a 1/2 hour.  On the third morning my mommy instincts said this is just not right, we need to take her to the hospital.  We arrived and were pushed through within a 1/2 of arrival, this was the first sign something really was wrong.

The ER nurse came in and did the initial assessment.  She felt that Cass was dehydrated and went and got us a freezie to try and entice her to eat it.  Cass refused the freezie, the nurse basically told Steph and I that we had to force feed her the freezie.  That didn't go so well.

When the doctor came in about 20 minutes later, he ordered Cass be put on I.V. immediately.  She was so dehydrated that her heart was starting to be effected (I told the nurse that a freezie wasn't going to help that!)

So long story short.  Cass and I spent 3 days in the hospital.  The first day they pumped 4 bags of electrolyte based IV fluids into her.  Along with numerous medications to stop the vomiting, and reduce the fever that she later spiked (104'F)

Throughout this whole ordeal I kept asking the doctors and nurses including my own family doctor if the vaccinations had anything to do with Cassidy's condition.  All of them kept saying, oh no vaccinations are safe, she just got sick.  I didn't believe them!

When we got home Steph and I sat down and decided that Cassidy would no longer receive any of vaccinations from that moment forward, we weren't going to risk her having another reaction.  We also decided to forgo the remainder of Kelsey's as well as the boys.  At the time Tristan and Morgan had already received all of the infant/child based vaccinations.  Mason being 3 had received most of them as well.  Fast forward a couple of years and we thought that given the seriousness of Hepatitis we agreed to have Tristan and Morgan receive their vaccinations as given at school.

Fast forward two more years...and Mason DID NOT receive his Hep B shots.

What happened in those two years from Morgan to Mason.  I became a doula and as a way to give my clients sound knowledge on vaccination prodigals I began to do some serious research on the subject.

This is what I found.......

Please note:  On numerous occasions I have been told "you're just using scare tactics to convince me not to vaccinate my child".  The information that follows is not a scare tactic.....it is the truth based on not just my research but on the research of many many people.  I am including a link to the actual Vaccine makers insert pamphlets.  These pamphlets just like the insert in the Tylenol bottle you buy, include ALL of the data on the vaccine, including ingredients, reactions, administration directions etc.  I only recently encountered these on a fellow birth advocates website.....they tell a tale that not one doctor I am aware of has ever told me or those whom I have talked to about vaccinations, has ever included in the information given about vaccinations.

History of Vaccinations

So let's go back to the beginning.  Why were vaccinations developed in the first place.  Well to do that we'd have to go back to the beginning of time really.  Disease has been a fact of life since history has been recorded.  The bible speaks of many diseases and afflictions.  In the year 900 a Persian physician wrote papers on the differences between measles and smallpox.  Epidemics of smallpox, whooping cough, yellow fever, measles can be traced throughout history both in Europe, Asia and the America's.

As early as 1661 we can see the Chinese medical records speaking of inoculations against smallpox.  These would be the first vaccinations given in history. In the early 1700's slaves coming into America were noted to have scars from smallpox variolation received in Africa.  These early inoculations or variolations were achieved by either inhaling a powder form of pulverized smallpox scabs and or by scratching the skin and purposefully infecting the person with smallpox pus. Both methods induced a controlled version of the disease.  Unfortunately many times this also resulted in full blown versions of the disease depending on the sanitation of the environment.

In the early to mid 1700's many countries began the practice of variolation of smallpox.  This became very popular among the aristocracy at the time.  The practice was criticized quite widely, but began to spread when the advantages became obvious.  The percentage of people inoculated by means of variolation who died was in the 2-3% range in comparison to the 20-30% who died after contracting smallpox naturally.  It was also criticised as it became apparent that the inoculated person was very contagious, and thus spread the disease to his family, friends and neighbours.

In 1738 Charleston SC suffered from a large smallpox epidemic.  At that time many people had been inoculated.  It's believed that the inoculations started the epidemic, however of the 441 people who received the variolation only 4% died, compared to 18% of those who where naturally infected.
In November of 1736, Benjamin Franklin's son died of smallpox, his statement that he wished he had chosen to inoculate coupled with the Charleston outbreak results lead to many people believing in the safety and efficiency of the inoculations.

In 1776 smallpox was used as a weapon of war when a British commander intentionally sent into battle recently variolated soldiers resulting in 5,000 French soldiers contracting the illness.   This incident resulted in the 1777 mandatory inoculation of the continental army under George Washington.

The first major discovery in changing the variolation directly using smallpox, came in 1796 when Dr Edward Jenner used cowpox to inoculate (injected via needle) an 8 year old boy.  Later that year after allowing the young boy a full recovery he variolated him with smallpox, which caused no reaction.  This was the first "vaccination" using a dried vaccine material.  Word quickly spread and 1802 Massachusetts became the first US state to endorse vaccination over variolation for smallpox.

In 1806 then US president Thomas Jefferson advocated vaccines as a way of eradicating smallpox from the world.  In 1813 the first U.S. vaccine agency was established.  In 1820 data was published in regards to the efficiency of the smallpox vaccination.  From 1791-1800 18,447 people died from smallpox, in comparison to 1810-1820 only 7,858 people died of the disease.

During the next hundred and fifty years between 1800-1950, diptheria, rubella, measles, rabies, anthrax, yellow fever, tuberculosis, haemophilus influenzae, whopping cough, polio and cholera were discovered and named during this time line.  Various doctors studied and made a great deal of observations on these disease including their transmission and life cycles.  During this time the production and use of true animal vaccine was used widely throughout Europe and the Americas.  In this timeline the vaccinations were made and used for rabies and cholera.  A vaccine for tuberculosis was also made but had little results.

In 1853 the first Vaccination law was introduced in the England, The U.S followed in 1855 and Germany in 1874.  These laws included the mandatory vaccination of all school aged children, including those in orphanages.

In 1882 the first anti-vaccination group was founded.  Their argument against vaccination, was that diseases were spread because of filth.  In 1898 Britain became the first country to allow vaccination exemptions.  By the end of 1898 over 200,000 exemptions had been requested and approved. Anti-vaccine groups grew in England, the U.S. and other parts of Europe.  A small blow to this movement occurred in 1905 when the U.S. Supreme court upheld the law of mandatory smallpox vaccinations. Courts continued to uphold the mandatory vaccinations for many years in the U.S. there are currently
still states that only allow exemptions for medical reasons.

Where did it go wrong?

As you can see from the history above, the original vaccines used the actual viruses to initiate an immune response to the disease being vaccinated against.  I think it all started to go wrong when they began to use animal strains of the viruses.  These viruses though able to pass to humans where still animal based.

The next step in the downfall happened when it became a laboratory event.  In 1879 Louis Pasteurs assistant failed to inject a chicken with a fresh culture of the chicken cholera vaccine he was using to record the progression of the disease.  When his assistant returned a month later and went ahead with the injection the chickens only showed mild signs of the disease.  Thus started the research into weakened strains of the virus.

These weakened strains though resulted in weakened reactions which did not give the vaccinated person a good enough immunity against the disease.  The discovery that animals injected with the diphtheria toxin combined with aluminum salts had a better reaction, started the research into adjuvants.

Adjuvants is where the story goes horribly horribly wrong.

What is an adjuvant

In vaccination land an adjuvant carries a couple of uses.  One use is as a preserving agent, the other use is to cause a more intense reaction to the disease vaccinated against.

"An immunological adjuvant is defined as any substance that acts to accelerate, prolong, or enhance specific immune responses when used in combination with specific vaccine antigens.

So in basic english the adjuvant forces our immune system to react faster, longer and harder to work against the disease.

Sure some of you are saying "well isn't that a good thing".  Yes it can be IF the person receiving this has an amazing immune system at the time the vaccine is given.  The issue is that there is no guarantee as to who has that amazing immune system.  This is especially relevant in infants who haven't had the time to build up their immune system.

The next level is the types of adjuvants used.  The most common adjuvants used in vaccines today are Aluminium Hydroxide, Thimerosal and Formalin.  These three products are highly toxic ingredients.

Aluminium Hydroxide is a form of Aluminum.  Aluminum is harmful to all life forms.  It damages all types of tissue. Aluminum is a protoplasmic poison and a deadly, persistent neurotoxin. No living systems use aluminum as part of a biochemical process.  Ironically, the American Academy of Pediatrics admits that Aluminum is now being implicated as interfering with a variety of cellular and metabolic processes in the nervous system and in other tissues. As of today, it is still in vaccines. Aluminum is a known toxin that can cause encephalitis, bone disease and anemia in susceptible people. The kidneys eliminate Aluminum from the body and so people with renal problems are at risk of Aluminum toxicity. 


All infants have reduced renal function and may not be able to effectively excrete excessive Aluminum. Kidney function is low at birth and reaches adult level by 1-2 years of age. The presence of Aluminum in a vaccine can cause small nodules to develop under the skin of some babies. These nodules are usually transient in nature and disappear spontaneously after a few weeks. In rare cases extreme hypersensitivity to Aluminum results in persistent nodules. Early studies also suggested a relationship between Aluminum compounds and an increased incidence of allergic diseases.  Aluminum is less toxic than mercury, arsenic, lead or cadmium, but it appears to be more persistent than most of them. The danger  is one that only manifests itself over long periods of time.

Formalin is used in vaccines to initiate  antibody formation.  In the body, the Formalin coating around the injected material dissolves, releasing all bacterial and viral particles from animal culture sources. |The formalin adjuvant chemicals irritate body tissues and increase the action of accompanying bacteria and viruses, as well as the reaction of the immune system to the foreign protein antigens. 

However it  potentially damages neurological membranes where the myelin sheath has only partially protected the nervous system. This can result in mild to severe neurological damage, leading to learning disabilities and other nervous system disorders, or death, especially upon subsequent injections, since body has already been sensitized, promoting allergic reactions of increasingly severe nature.

Formalin is a derivative of formaldehyde. Formalin is a mixture of 37-40 percent formaldehyde, water, and usually 10 percent methanol. It is often used as a working solution for tissue fixation, or as a preservative holding solution for fixed tissues or organ specimens in pathological laboratories.   It is also used to inactivate bacterial products for toxoid vaccines. It will also kill unwanted viruses that might be found in the culture as well as serve as an embalming agent. 

Formaldehyde is a neurotoxin and carcinogen. It effects the nervous system and is known to cause cancer. It may cause insomnia, coughing, headaches, nausea, nosebleeds, and skin rashes. It is commonly known to embalm corpses. It has been said that there is no safe level of formaldehyde to be ingested into the body.

Thimerosal is a Mercury compound. Thimerosal is also known as ethyl Mercury. Mercury is a known neuro-toxin. It can cross the placenta and blood brain barrier then, concentrate in the blood and brain. Mercury is a known carcinogens and there is no “safe amounts” allowed in the human body. The U.S. Public Health Service and the American Academy of Pediatrics found that some children could be exposed to cumulative levels of Mercury over the first six months of life that exceed federal guidelines. 

By age two, American children have received 237 micrograms of Mercury through vaccines. This far exceeds the EPA’s current safe level of 1/10th of 1 microgram per kilogram a day. Thirty-five micrograms will kill a rabbit. This amount would be equivalent to injecting a 100lb adult with 40 vaccines in one day.

MYTH #1-VACCINES STOP DISEASES


Do Vaccines Actually Stop Disease?


The governmental types have been teaching us that polio and smallpox epidemics went away because of the instituted vaccinations that began in the 1950's (after WWII).  As well the US feels that other diseases such as measles, mumps, pertussis etc have been brought under control or eliminated as well.


However statistics and studies show differently.  An article from 2000 in a Pediatric Journal shows that prior to World War II a large majority of infectious diseases (diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, TB, scarlet fever, pertussis, influenza) were all significantly being reduced prior to WWII--BEFORE antibiotics and vaccinations were even thought of in the treatment of these diseases.


These diseases were being brought under control with the implementation of public health knowledge including:

  • Access to clean water
  • Safer living conditions
  • Improved in home and public sanitation
  • Improved knowledge of nutrition

The following statistics lend light to the fact that vaccinations do not in fact eliminate these diseases and in fact can cause more outbreaks:
  • According to the British Association for the Advancement of Science, childhood diseases decreased 90% between 1850 and 1940, paralleling improved sanitation and hygienic practices, well before mandatory vaccination programs. 
  • Infectious disease deaths in the U.S. and England declined steadily by an average of about 80% during this century (measles mortality declined over 97%) prior to vaccinations.
  • In Great Britain, the polio epidemics peaked in 1950, and had declined 82% by the time the vaccine was introduced there in 1956.
  • Measles outbreaks have occurred in schools with vaccination rates over 98 % in all parts of the U.S. including areas that had reported no cases of measles for years. As measles immunization rates rise to high levels measles becomes a disease seen only in vaccinated persons. An outbreak of measles occurred in a school where 100 % of the children had been vaccinated. 
  • Measles mortality rates had declined by 97 % in England before measles vaccination was instituted
  • In 1986 there were 1300 cases of pertussis in Kansas and 90 % of these cases occurred in children who had been adequately vaccinated. 
  • Pertussis remains endemic in the Netherlands where for more than 20 years 96 % of children have received 3 pertussis shots by age 12 months.
  • After institution of diphtheria vaccination in England and Wales in 1894 the number of deaths from diphtheria rose by 20 % in the subsequent 15 years. 
  • Germany had compulsory vaccination in 1939. The rate of diphtheria spiraled to 150,000 cases that year whereas, Norway which did not have compulsory vaccination, had only 50 cases of diphtheria the same year.
  • All cases of polio since 1979 had been caused by the polio vaccine with no known cases of polio from a wild strain since 1979. 
  • Japan experienced yearly increases in small pox following the introduction of compulsory vaccines in 1872. By 1892, there were 29,979 deaths, and all had been vaccinated.
  • In the early 1900's the Philippines experienced their worst smallpox epidemic ever after 8 million people received 24.5 million vaccine doses; the death rate quadrupled as a result.
  • In 1989, the country of Oman experienced a widespread polio outbreak six months after achieving complete vaccination
  • In the U.S. in 1986, 90% of 1300 pertussis cases in Kansas were "adequately vaccinated."
  • 72% of pertussis cases in the 1993 Chicago outbreak were fully up to date with their vaccinations


MYTH #2 VACCINES COMPLETELY PROTECT US FROM THE DISEASE


From the stats above, we can see that MYTH #2 has already been dispelled but....

Why Do Vaccines Fail to Protect Against Diseases?



What we need to first understand when talking about vaccines is the hugely significant difference between natural acquired immunity and vaccination acquired immunity.
When we are born, we naturally begin develop an immunity to the millions and even trillions of microorganisms that breathe in, eat, and touch. Our immune systems first line of defence is our skin, then our airways, the lining of our intestines, all of these defence systems work actively to protect our bodies bacteria around us.
From these different levels of our immune system we receive information, the immune system constantly sends out signals to all other parts of the immune system, and creates an immune response, memory, and antibodies to bacteria and diseases we come into contact with daily.
When you inject materials into your body, you are bypassing that crucial first step called the primary line of defense.  We need that the full inflammatory response to create real immunity. Prior to the introduction of measles and mumps vaccines children got measles and mumps and in the great majority of cases these diseases were benign. Vaccines "trick" the body so it does not mount a complete inflammatory response to the injected virus.
By directly injecting a vaccine we are just creating an antibody. This antibody will and does NOT impart long-term immunity because it does not create the kind of memory that occurs when you breathe it in, eat it, or are exposed through the skin, and then go through the course of the natural disease.
Naturally acquired immunity created by coming into contact with a bacteria signals the entire immune system to respond and repel the invading virus. A natural immune system response creates antibodies that confer life long immunity against that invading virus and prepares our body to respond promptly to an infection by the same virus in the future.
In, in contrast,  vaccination results in the persisting of live virus or other foreign antigens within the cells of the body, a situation that may provoke auto-immune reactions as the body attempts to destroy its own infected cells.

Numerous vaccines given over a short period of time to an immature immune system deplete the thymus gland (the primary gland involved in immune reactions) of irreplaceable immature immune cells. Each of these cells could have multiplied and developed into an army of valuable cells to combat infection and growth of abnormal cells. When these immune cells have been used up, permanent immunity may not appear. The Arthur Research Foundation in Tucson, Arizona estimates that up to 60 % of our immune system may be exhausted by multiple mass vaccines (36 are now required for children). Only 10 % of immune cells are permanently lost when a child is permitted to develop natural immunity from disease.

Compelling evidence is available that the development of the immune system after contracting the usual childhood diseases matures and renders it capable to fight infection and malignant cells in the future.

But most importantly and ironically when we vaccinate we are jumping to the conclusion that our children have not already been exposed to the virus at some point, and we are also making the assumption that exposure automatically leads to infection.

Exposure does not necessarily lead to infection. A lot of it has to do with the overall status of your immune system.  We all come in to contact with millions of bacteria a day, but we aren't constantly in a state of illness!

MYTH # 3  VACCINES ARE SAFE


Internationally all countries have a governmental body that collects adverse reactions to vaccinations on a daily basis.  It's hard to find statistics for these events in Canada without having to dig very deep into Health Stat reports.  But I found several from the FDA and CDC in the USA as well as internationally.

Here are just a few thoughts on the "safety" of vaccines:

  • Every new parent needs to be aware of this fact, individual vaccines have been tested for "safety", however the entire vaccination schedule has NOT, and neither have the other vaccines that are administered in groups of up to 14 at the same time.
  • The current U.S. and Canadian immunization schedule calls for children to get 48 doses of 14 vaccines by the time they’re just 6 years old. By age 18, federal public health officials say they should have gotten a total of 69 doses of 16 vaccines from day of birth to age 18.
  • One vaccine injected into a 13-pound, 2-month-old infant is equivalent to 10 doses of the same in a 130-pound adult. 
  • Would any adult concede to being injected with 360 doses of vaccines within a couple of years’ span; equal to one injection every other day for two years?
  • The live virus against measles and mumps may produce such side effects as encephalitis (brain damage).
  • The steady escalation in the number of vaccines administered has been followed by an identical rise in the incidence of auto-immune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, subacute lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, asthma) seen in children. 
  • In 1983,  children received 10 vaccinations before attending school and the autism incidence was 1 in 10,000. Today they are receiving 24 vaccines before 1 year and 36 by the time they attend school and the autism rate is now 1 in 150 births.
  • The MMR vaccine contains live measles viruses and recent studies have shown that immune suppression after vaccination with this virus suppresses immunity in a profound way that last as long as six months.
  • A large study from Australia showed that the risk of developing encephalitis from the pertussis vaccine was 5 times greater than the risk of developing encephalitis by contacting pertussis by natural methods.
  • In the past 10 years, the number of autistic children has risen from between 200 and 500 percent in every state in the U.S. This sharp rise in autism followed the introduction of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine in 1975.
  • In the United States the number of compulsory vaccine injections has increased from 10 to 36 in the last 25 years. During this period, there has been a simultaneous increase in the number of children suffering learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder. 
  • An expert at the 1997 International Vaccine Conference related that a person who takes 5 or more annual flu vaccine shots has increased the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's Disease by a factor of 10 over the person who has had 2 or fewer flu shots.  This fact is due to the presence of aluminum and mercury adjuvants in the flu vaccines.
  • Cancer was a very rare illness in the 1890's. This evidence about immune system injury from vaccinating affords a plausible explanation for Dr. Clarke's finding that only vaccinated individuals got cancer. Some radical adverse change in health occurred in the early 1900s to permit cancer to explode and vaccinating appears to be the reason.
  • Both national and international studies have shown vaccination to be a cause of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). One study found the peak incidence of SIDS occurred at the ages of 2 and 4 months in the U.S., precisely when the first two routine immunizations are given, while another found a clear pattern extending three weeks after immunization. Another study found that 3,000 children die within 4 days of vaccination each year in the U.S.  Another researcher's studies led to the conclusion that half of SIDS cases--that would be 2500 to 5000 infant deaths in the U.S. each year--are caused by vaccines.
  • In the mid 70's Japan raised their vaccination age from 2 months to 2 years; their incidence of SIDS dropped dramatically.
  • The U.S. Federal Government's National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) has paid out over $724.4 million to parents of vaccine  injured and killed children, in taxpayer dollars. The NVICP has received over 5000 petitions since 1988, including over 700 for vaccine-related deaths, and there are still over 2800 total death and injury cases pending that may take years to resolve.
What Are Adverse Reactions?

I remember with each vaccination that my kids did receive, I was given the line by the doctor to expect fussiness, mild fever or just "not feeling ok", type symptoms.  These I was told were TOTALLY NORMAL reactions to the vaccinations!  I was lied to-as are each and everyone of you when you hear this line.

ANY reaction is classified as an ADVERSE reaction to a vaccination and is REPORTABLE by the administering physician and or attending physician if the vaccine recipient is seen for medical care.

Each and everyone of my children have had a reportable adverse reaction to EVERY vaccination they have ever received!


The problem is in getting your doctor to report the reaction.  However in Canada (and Internationally) we as parents can report these reactions ourselves.

But my child has had no reactions to their vaccines....so what's the worry....


The main issue with vaccinations really is the long term effect that they have on our health as we age, and as we get subsequent boosters and adult flu vaccines.  

There is also compelling evidence that vaccines themselves can damage the immune system of immature animals, leading to a higher incidence of autoimmunity and abnormal brain development. Mercury, even in small concentrations, is also known to induce autoimmunity in a high percentage of those exposed.

The immune system is a very complex system, which at birth is incompletely formed. This means, and has been confirmed in animal and human studies, that immune reactions to vaccinations differ at different ages, so that small babies have a different reaction than adults. This has been shown with the hepatitis B vaccine now given to newborns.  
The rate of maturation of the immune system also differs considerably among babies and children, meaning we cannot say what effect will occur in all children. 
The human being also has an unusual brain development in that there is a prolonged period of maturation and development that continues to occur years after birth. The most rapid brain development occurs during the last trimester of intrauterine life and two years after birth.  It is the areas regulating higher brain functions, such as emotions, emotional control, thinking, complex memory and language function that is last to develop. 
All of that can be greatly effected by adding toxins to the immature immune system.  These toxins can stay within the brain for years.  With repeated immunizations for boosters and adult flu vaccines we continue to add to this toxic build up.
The adjuvants used in vaccines are intentionally highly inflammatory so as to provoke a more active immune response to the weakened pathogen. The fact that American children are the most vaccinated in the world at such an early age, when their brains are setting up shop, runs the high risk that vaccinations will "train" nerves to become more hyper-active to future inflammatory stress of any kind.
This inflammation can result in life long health issues and activate autoimmune disorders.  Studies have shown that the number of autoimmune diseases has increased over the past 30 years, with asthma, type 1 diabetes and eczema rates increasing over two-fold.
The most significant long term effect has been seen in Alzheimer's patients.  There has been a 1000% increase in Alzheimer's since the institution of childhood vaccines.  As well early onset of the disease continues to occur with people as young as 40 starting to show symptoms.
A childhood vaccine has life long effects.
MYTH #4 CHILDHOOD DISEASES ARE DANGEROUS


Most childhood infectious diseases have few serious consequences linked to them in our present societies health world.   Statistics for pertussis during 1992-94 indicate a 99.8% recovery rate. In fact, when hundreds of pertussis cases occurred in Ohio and Chicago in the fall 1993 outbreak, an infectious disease expert from Cincinnati Children's Hospital said, "The disease was very mild, no one died, and no one went to the intensive care unit."

The vast majority of the time, childhood infectious diseases are mild and short term. They build natural  lifelong immunity, whereas vaccine-induced immunity is only temporary. In fact, the temporary nature of vaccine immunity can create a more dangerous situation in a child's future. For example, the new chicken pox vaccine has an effectiveness estimated at 6 - 10 years. If effective, it will postpone the child's vulnerability until adulthood, when death from the disease is 20 times more likely. Some health care professionals are concerned that the virus from the chicken pox vaccine may reactivate later in life in the form of herpes zoster (shingles) or other immune system disorders.

About half of measles cases in the late 1980's resurgence were in adolescents and adults, most of whom were vaccinated as children, and the recommended booster shots may provide protection for less than 6 months. 

Not only are most infectious diseases rarely dangerous, but they can actually play a vital role in the development of a strong, healthy immune system. Persons who have not had measles have a higher incidence of certain skin diseases, degenerative diseases of bone and cartilage, and certain tumors, while absence of mumps has been linked to higher risks of ovarian cancer.

MYTH #5 VACCINES ARE THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THESE DISEASES


First off, given the information in myth #4 maybe we shouldn't be completely preventing these diseases.


But secondly there are many ways to prevent them.  Proper hygiene and sanitary conditions have historically been shown to lower the incidences of these diseases.


Building a strong immune system is the first step to having a healthy human.  Historically, homeopathy has been more effective than "mainstream" medicine in treating and preventing disease. In a U.S. cholera outbreak in 1849, mainstream medicine saw a 48-60% death rate, while homeopathic hospitals had a documented death rate of only 3%.


Similar statistics still hold true for cholera today. Recent epidemiological studies show homeopathic remedies as equaling or surpassing standard vaccinations in preventing disease. There are reports in which populations that were treated homeopathically after exposure had a 100% success rate--none of the treated caught the disease.


There are homeopathic kits available for disease prevention.  Homeopathic remedies can also be taken only during times of increased risk (outbreaks, traveling, etc.), and have proven highly effective in such instances. And since these remedies have no toxic components, they have no side effects. In addition, homeopathy has been effective in reversing some of the disability caused by vaccine reactions, as well as many other chronic conditions with which allopathic medicine has had little effect. 

MYTH # 6 THE LAW SAYS I HAVE TO VACCINATE MY CHILD FOR HIM/HER TO ATTEND SCHOOL

This is the biggest myth of all!!!!

It is a parent's CHOICE to vaccinate their child.  

There are 3 pathways to exemption:

Medical exemption: Epilepsy, severe allergies, and siblings' previous adverse reactions are but a few of the many conditions in child or family history which may increase the chances of an adverse reaction, and thus qualify for a medical exemption;

Religious Exemption:  Depending on your religion vaccinating your child is or is not an acceptable practice.

Reasons of Conscience:  Due to the controversy surrounding vaccination, parents may use this exemption of opt of vaccinating their child.

Depending on the country you live in, depends on the exemptions allowed.  The above 3 exemptions are available in Canada and 50 States in the U.S. 


Here is a link to the provincial affidavits that needs to be signed and filed with the Public Health Unit in Canada.  It's a quick form to fill out.  Most provinces require you to have it Commissioned.  If you go into your local Ontario Government building (where you get health cards renewed etc.) they have commissioners on staff and will do it free of charge.

CONCLUSION:


Vaccines are an unnatural exposure to illness.   

There is no proof that vaccines work and they are never studied for safety before release. My opinion is that there is overwhelming evidence that vaccines are dangerous and the only reason for their existence is to increase profits of pharmaceutical firms.

The more vaccines are studied, the more apparent it becomes that proper vaccine studies are lacking. There is a major difference between natural acquired immunity and vaccine-induced immunity. Obtaining natural immunity has far greater benefits, but this fact seems to be completely overlooked in North American society considering it's recommended that U.S. and Canadian babies receive 24-26 doses of vaccines before age 1 (which, incidentally, is twice as many vaccinations as are given to babies in Sweden and Japan).



A Journal of Virology study shows, the children who remain unvaccinated actually built up more and stronger antibodies against a wider variety of virus strains than those children who received vaccines.
Vaccines DO NOT impart long-term immunity because they don't create the kind of immune system reaction and subsequent memory that happens when you go through the process of a natural immune response. Natural exposure does not always result in an infection, but can and usually does result in a immune response that builds antibodies—it is possible to obtain natural immunity without actually getting sick, if your immune system is functioning well. In fact, vaccines do NOT strengthen the healthy functioning of the immune system, but actually weaken it and will continue to weaken it for the rest of your life.
So.......short but sweet answer DON'T GET YOUR CHILDREN VACCINATED!

"Top foods That are Killing Us Slowly from the Inside Out"

Welcome to Nutrition Month

My favorite month of the year....well as far as "months" are concerned...get me to July and I am much happier with the calendar lol.

Let's start here.

What Foods Shouldn't We Eat

This could be a pretty comprehensive list.  But I am going to start with those things that WE REALLY should NEVER consume.

I know some of you are going to find some controversy in this list, but having done my research these are the things that we avoid as much as possible at our house.

#1 GMO's 

The food industry is constantly trying to make things grow faster and bigger.  But at a cost to our health. They are modifying the way these organisms were created by God, and thus altering the way our bodies assimilate them.  These crops are also made to be resistant to any and all natural enemies such as molds, insects etc.  The way in which they do this is to introduce chemicals into the genome of the plant, thus also introducing these chemicals into our bodies as well.

Top Genetically Modified Foods to Avoid

Soy
As of 2004, 85 percent of the soybeans grown on U.S. soil have been genetically modified.  Because soy is widely used in the production of other items (including cereal, baked products, chocolate and even ice cream), chances are everybody in the U.S. is eating GM soy. It might be worth noting, however, that tofu and soy sauce are usually made from non-GM soybeans, a variation from most other soy products, which likely are GM-based. The bulk of the soybean crop is not destined to human consumption but instead used for livestock feed. For those who aren't vegetarians, this becomes another source of GM foods, as the gene is passed on through the meat.

Corn
Bt-corn is a form of sweet corn that has been genetically modified to include an insect-killing gene. This means the farmer doesn't have to spray with pesticides because the insects die from eating the corn. No spraying means less harm to the environment. The move has caused debate, however. The same gene that attacks corn predators also appears to kill the Monarch butterfly.

Tomatoes
GM tomatoes don't rot as quickly as regular tomatoes, so they can tolerate longer periods of transportation. GM tomatoes also can be left to mature on the plants, rather than being picked green. This results in a more tasty tomato that doesn't need to be stored until ripening.

Oil
We don't normally think of oils as part of our food list, but the truth is that they're not only for cooking and flavoring, but show up as an ingredient in a large number of prepackaged foods we eat on a regular basis.
The U.S., India and China are the world's largest producers of GM cottonseed oil. As a result, it's hard to avoid this GM food, even if you don't buy it bottled. In the U.S., GM-modified oils are sold as cooking oils, but also commonly used for frying snacks such as potato chips and also used in the production of margarine. Canola or rapeseed oil became an important crop only after being genetically modified. Before that, the oil was too bitter to be used in foods. The modification did away with the bitterness and also increased rapeseed's resistance to herbicides. This allows crops to be sprayed with weed-control products without running the risk of affecting the actual crops.

Golden Rice
Golden rice was first created to fight vitamin A deficiency, which affects 250 million people around the world and can cause blindness and even death. Rice is one of the most common foods on Earth. In fact, almost half of the world's population survives on a single daily bowl of rice. Because getting vitamin supplements to every single person on the planet would be impossible, scientists believed that the answer was to create a grain of rice that already had vitamin A in it. And so golden rice was born.

Squash
Squash is more prone than some crops to viral diseases, which is why it was genetically modified to ensure crop survival. The original purpose was achieved, but the modification backfired in an unexpected way. It seems cucumber beetles that carry bacterial wilt disease like to feed on healthy plants, like the GM squash. After visiting unhealthy plants, they land on the nice, healthy GM squash plant and pig out, wounding the leaves and leaving open holes on them. When the beetles' feces fall on the leaves, they're absorbed into the stem and cause bacterial wilt disease.

Animals Fed with GMO Feed Products
A large part of the GM presence in animal feed does not come from foodstuff but instead from additives aimed at making food more nutritious. Animal feed is commonly enhanced with vitamins, amino acids, enzymes and even coloring. These additives are passed on to the animal's system and eventually make their way into your body when you consume meat, eggs or dairy products. Traces of GM cannot, however, be detected in animal by-products, so it's impossible to know if an animal was raised on GM-enhanced feed. Unless you buy organic meat and dairy products, it might be impossible to determine what you're eating.

Salmon
GM salmon is, as we speak, on its way to our dinner table. Wild salmon matures slowly, taking up to three years to reach its full size. GM salmon, on the other hand, not only will grow faster but also should reach about twice the size of its wild cousin. The creators of the GM salmon, a private company called AquaBounty, promises to harvest the salmon before it reaches its full size, thus preventing "giant" versions. The GM salmon, known as AquAdvantage, is meant to be grown in fish farms. According to proponents of the modification, this would reduce fishing of wild salmon, in turn protecting both the wild population of fish and the environment from human intrusion. 
#2 SUGAR
Sugar in history has been one of the most highly traded commodities.  Looking at history we can see how we are damaging our health with the over consumption of sugar.

How Much is Safe and How Much are We Eating
According to an American Heart Association Study done in 2009, an average adult male should consume no more then 38 grams of added sugar, adult female-25 grams, children under 13 no more then 12 grams, and teens no more then 18-37 depending on height and healthy weight.  **added sugar means sugar from sources other then fruit/vegetables that is "added" to foods**
The issue is not the sugar found in natural sources such as fruits and vegetables it is the processed sugars we consume in processed foods and add to our foods.
Avoiding these processed forms of sugar is the easiest way to lower the amount of sugar ingested.
#3 TABLE SALT
Our bodies need salt in order to keep our electrolytes properly balanced.  Iodized table salt which is found in every processed food on the planet as well as 95% of salt shakers is causing serious health issues.
Salt in it's pure form is completely healthy and needed by our body, however the process of creating table salt robs it of any of the health benefits.
Salt is dried at over 1200'F which alters the chemical composition of the salt turning it into sodium chloride.  It then has anti-caking agents such as calcium silicate and dextrose added to it
Common Side-effects of Table Salt Consumption:
1. Calcium absorption. Excessive sodium can inhibit the absorption of calcium by increasing its secretion in the urine. Proper absorption of calcium is essential for bone and joint health and proper muscular function. Interestingly, natural sea salts often contain calcium and magnesium, the latter a mineral which enhances calcium absorption.
2. Water retention. Too much table salt causes the body’s tissues to hold water in an attempt to maintain fluid balance in the body. Cells function best when the salt content of the fluid within them (intra-cellular fluid) and the salt content of the fluid surrounding them (extra-cellular fluid) is the same. When there is too much salt in the body, cells will release water from within to dilute the sodium-saturated water around them, and vice-versa. The water remains trapped in the tissues as the body attempts to maintain the salt to water ratio. Water retention is not just uncomfortable; it contributes to weight gain, high blood pressure, and other problems (see below).
3. Circulatory problems. Some people’s blood pressure is more profoundly affected by salt than others. Nonetheless, even the experts have trouble distinguishing who is most susceptible to sodium-induced high blood pressure (hypertension), so keeping your salt intake in check is a good idea. When sodium causes high blood pressure, the potential for lethal circulatory problems is significant. Those with hypertension are more at risk for heart attack, stroke, and overall blood vessel damage.
4. Kidneys. These vital organs are also affected by excessive sodium intake. If blood vessels in the kidneys are damaged by hypertension, the kidney becomes less efficient. Thus, excess fluid and toxins accumulate in the body because the kidneys are not able to filter them out efficiently. As noted above, retained fluid increases blood pressure and the cycle continues.
5. Pregnancy. Pregnant women need to be especially careful with their salt intake. They often need more salt to maintain correct electrolyte balance, but taking in more of the common table salt variety may do more harm than good. For example, reducing the absorption of calcium – which table salt intake can do – is definitely a bad idea during pregnancy.
#4 POP


Most of us know that pop really isn't healthy....but how many know why.


We've talked about sugar already, but want to put it into perspective for you just how much sugar is in a can of pop.

Each sugar cube is equal to 4grams of sugar each or 1 teaspoon of sugar.

Carbonation:
Beverages with bubbles contain phosphoric acid, which can severely deplete the blood calcium levels; calcium is a key component of the bone matrix. With less concentration of calcium over a long time, it can lower deposition rates so that bone mass and density suffer. This means that drinking sodas and carbonated water increases your risk of osteoporosis.

Caffeine:
Add in the caffeine usually present in soft drinks, and you are in for even more trouble. Caffeine can deplete the body’s calcium, in addition to stimulating your central nervous system and contributing to stress, a racing mind, and insomnia.

#5 ARTIFICIAL SUGARS  "Diet-Low Fat-Sugar Free"

Aspartame is by far the most commonly used in this list.  There are some 20,000+ products that contain aspartame.  Another 10-15,000 products contain the others listed either separately or in combination.


The sad thing about asparatame and the other artificial sweeteners is that they are used so extensively in the diabetic industry as well as the diet industry.  Our brains do not know how to recognize the chemical components of these substances.  Aspartame actually increases a persons cravings for carbohydrates, which in turn increases appetite.  People who consume aspartame once a day are prone to eating 500+ more calories.

Aspartame causes an endless list of negative side effects.  The main reason this happens is due to chemical methanol.  When methanol is metabolized it quickly converts to formaldehyde.  Long term use of aspartame can create a significant build up of methanol/formaldehyde and that is what has been seen to cause many of the problems associated with aspartame poisoning.

  • Creates nutritional deficiencies of healthy oils and essential essential fatty acids(EFAs)

  • These oils are present in every processed food in some way or another.  But the most dangerous place they are used is in deep frying foods.

    Deep Frying

    Deep fried foods are not only high in fat and calories, but sometimes deep frying alters a food into a more carcinogenic food (cancer causing).  The most common carcinogenic deep fried food is potatoes. Deep fried potatoes, also known as french fries or potato chips (a huge weakness of mine, are actually carcinogenic because they contain a chemical in them called acrilamides.
    Because the potato is starchy, and because of it’s chemical makeup, these acrilamides spawn from them when deep fried – so things like potato chips and french fries are actually carcinogenic.
    Deep fried foods are also very acidic within the body. They can cause acid overload, and you can get an upset stomach and diarrhea pretty easily because they are so loaded in fat and other nasty ingredients.  You also may notice you have indigestion after eating deep fried foods – they aren’t the friendliest to you digestive system.


    #7 DAIRY  Milk-Cheese


    So here goes the controversy.  Most of us have grown up learning that "Milk makes Strong Bones".  This couldn't be further from the truth.  North Americans (both US and Canada) are amongst the highest consumers of dairy products in the world.  We also have the highest percentage of osteo bone health diseases (osteoporosis).  If Milk makes strong bones....what happened?

    If you have ever thought of using the bible as a nutrition guide, we actually find the answer to how to consume milk in Exodus 23:19.  While most of us don't eat goat, this passage translates to  "don't mix milk and meat together" totally explains why a high consumption of milk leads to osteo health issues.

    Here are some interesting facts about milk:

    • Human infants take about 180 days to double their birth weight, human milk is 5 to 7 percent protein. Calves require only 45 days doubling their birth weight and cows milk is 15 percent protein. 
    • The overall death rate for the babies raised on human milk was 1.5 deaths per 1,000 infants while the death rate in the babies fed cow milk was 84.7 per 1,000 during the first nine months of life. 
    •  The primary type of protein in cow's milk is casein. Cow's milk has 20 times as much in human milk, which makes the protein from cows milk difficult or impossible for humans to digest or absorb.
    • When a single food can be isolated as the cause of an allergy, 60 percent of the time, that food is cows milk. Symptoms of this allergic reaction to cow's milk in infants can include asthma, nasal congestion, skin rash, chest infections, irritability and fatigue.
    • Milk doesn’t reduce fractures. Contrary to popular belief, eating dairy products has never been shown to reduce fracture risk. In fact, according to the Nurses’ Health Study dairy may increase risk of fractures by 50 percent!
    • High exposure to estrogen has been shown to cause many health issues.  60-80% of the primary sources of estrogen ingestion in the US is through milk consumption.  The issue is that farmer's milk cows 300 days of the year, during which time they can be pregnant for as much as 285 days of the period.  During late pregnancy a cows estrogen production increases 33 times the normal amount, this estrogen is then passed into her milk and on to humans. 
    • Most cow's milk (organic included) has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics, blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses. Cow's milk can have traces of anything the cow ate, including such things as radioactive fallout from nuke testing.

    Lactose Intolerance


    Between the ages of 18 months and 7 years humans lose the enzyme lactase that is used to break down lactose found in breast milk.  This enzyme also is used by calves to break down the lactose (or milk sugars) in cows milk.  This reduction occurs in 75% of the population.  The other 25% show a reduction of lactase production up until about age 25.

    In essence we are ALL lactose intolerant.

    Because of the lack of lactase our body has to find other was to break down the milk enzyme.  This occurs in our lower intestines. The bacteria normally found in our lower intestines is responsible for this break down.  However, this isn't how these bacteria are meant to be used.  This puts an extra load on their normal function, which results in a higher output by them of their own waste-which in turns leads to blotting, and cramps.  Then our body produces mucous in an effort to rid ourselves of the excess of this waste.  This reaction results in severe health issues.

    #8 PLASTIC-BPA


    I can hear you all saying..."but Amy we don't EAT plastic"

    Wrong!

    Here is a list of products that I can honestly say are in plastic in my home, or came to my house in plastic.

    Spices, Vitamins, Meats, Veggies, Breads, Condiments....the list can go on forever.

    I would say walking down the grocery aisle you would find hmmm 98% of all the products you find will be in direct contact with a plastic product.

    This problem came to light a couple of years ago when baby bottles lined with BPA became headline news.  This prompted many companies to remove the BPA from their product lines.  However many still contain this chemical as well as many others that have been shown to cause illnesses including cancers.

    But plastic itself with or without BPA is still a problem.  Especially when it comes to heating it. Plastics are made by combing organic and inorganic materials.  Many have chemical additives included to strengthen the plastic, or weaken it depending on the usage.

    When plastic is heated the molecules of the chemical additives change structure and are released into the food touching it.

    Two of the most commonly eaten foods are on a list of foods that even the experts won't eat are there because the come into direct contact with plastic during the manufacturing, storage, cooking process.


    Canned Tomatoes

    The expert: Fredrick vom Saal, PhD, an endocrinologist at the University of Missouri who studies bisphenol-A
    The problem: The resin linings of tin cans contain bisphenol-A, a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to ailments ranging from reproductive problems to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Unfortunately, acidity (a prominent characteristic of tomatoes) causes BPA to leach into your food. Studies show that the BPA in most people's body exceeds the amount that suppresses sperm production or causes chromosomal damage to the eggs of animals. "You can get 50 mcg of BPA per liter out of a tomato can, and that's a level that is going to impact people, particularly the young," says vom Saal. "I won't go near canned tomatoes."
    The solution: Choose tomatoes in glass bottles (which do not need resin linings), such as the brands Bionaturae and Coluccio. You can also get several types in Tetra Pak boxes, like Trader Joe's and Pomi.
    Microwave Popcorn
    The expert: Olga Naidenko, PhD, a senior scientist for the Environmental Working Group,
    The problem: Chemicals, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), in the lining of the bag, are part of a class of compounds that may be linked to infertility in humans, according to a recent study from UCLA. In animal testing, the chemicals cause liver, testicular, and pancreatic cancer. Studies show that microwaving causes the chemicals to vaporize-and migrate into your popcorn. "They stay in your body for years and accumulate there," says Naidenko, which is why researchers worry that levels in humans could approach the amounts causing cancers in laboratory animals. DuPont and other manufacturers have promised to phase out PFOA by 2015 under a voluntary EPA plan, but millions of bags of popcorn will be sold between now and then.
    The solution: Pop natural kernels the old-fashioned way: in a skillet. For flavorings, you can add real butter or dried seasonings, such as dillweed, vegetable flakes, or soup mix.
    #9-PROCESSED FOODS
    There are 3 categories of processed foods
    Real Food made to last longer:
    Processed food that is made from real food that has been put through chemical processes and are infused with chemicals and preservatives.  Examples:  Canned fruits/vegetables, canned meats, cheeses etc.  Preservatives are used in these foods to keep them from spoiling.
    Junk foods:
    Junk foods contain very little REAL food.  They're made of devitalized processed foods that have been fried, baked or otherwise had high levels of fats, chemicals and preservatives added to them.  Examples, chips, pop, cookies, cereals, drive through foods.  Our bodies have a hard time finding any nutrients from these foods. 

    Fake food
    Fake foods are primarily made of chemicals and contain gum and sugar fillers.   Examples: instant coffee, bottled salad dressing, dehydrated soups.
    What makes these foods harmful.  Processed foods have one thing in common....the nutrition they input is greatly out weighed by the energy it takes our body to process digest, absorb and eliminate them.\
    Our ancestors preserved foods naturally, using salts, fermentation and sun drying.  Food processing has evolved away from these simple practices.  Nearly 6,000 additives and chemicals are used by food companies to process our food.  Many of them are shown to have devastating effects on our health.
    Alot of manufacturers add in vitamins and minerals.  The sad thing is this is necessary because of the processing of the "real" food has stripped these nutrients out of the foods.

    I'm Sick What Do I Do.

    I've heard this statement alot in the last month or so.  Everything from a stuffy nose, chest cough, bronchitis, pneumonia and a large number of cases of shingles.  It's "that" time of year as everyone says.  What if it doesn't have to be "that" time of year-ever?

    If you have asked me this question you're likely well aware of the steps that my family has taken in the last 3-4 years to get on to a different health track!  A healthy one!!!!

    Go back in time to 4-5 years ago, we could likely have bought shares in drug companies like Ibuprofen and Tylenol, as well as the fact that the favorite type of mold in our house came out of a prescription bottle in the form of several types of antibiotics a year per person.

    It was about the time that I became a doula that I REALLY started to see that the "normal" way of doctors wasn't really that normal, and in fact alot of times caused much more harm then good.  I also remember thinking that my doula trainers where a tiny bit "hippieish" and wasn't sure if that was anything I wanted to be.

    Fast forward 5 years...please feel free to call me a hippy, "witch" doctor (my son jokingly calls me this) health nut, alternative medication whacko....I will TOTALLY thank you for any of the above or others!

    So...first off let me insert this little disclaimer :  I am NOT a medical doctor, the information I am going to share is NOT a replacement for medical advice if you are suffering from a serious illness or medical condition.  If you attempt any of the items in this blog, that is your choice.  All of the information found here can and has been accessed on the Internet and through various books that I have taken the time to read and follow over the last 5 years.  I have used each and every one of the things I am going to list, however they may not be effective for you as every body has a different reaction.

    All that being said ready...set.....go!

    If you look in my "medicine" cupboard this is what you will find:

    Vitamins/Minerals:  B complex, C, D, Calcium,
    Probiotic Complex
    Activated Charcoal
    Arnica
    Oil of Oregano
    Nin Jiom
    Essential Oils:  Tea Tree, Lavender, Cedar, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Camphor,
    Garlic Cloves
    Organic Local Honey
    Respiractin (it's in the fridge)

    That's it! That's all!  The essential oil line up may fluctuate between several other scents depending on what is required and what I am in the mood for.

    So this is what these items have, yep gonna use the word cured in the last 4 years in our house:

    Ear Infections
    Coughs both minor and major
    Bronchitis
    Strep Throat
    Serious (as in covered) cases of Poison Ivy
    Sinusitis (aka sinus infections)
    Stomach Upsets-Vomiting and Diarrhea

    Head Lice
    Fleas
    Round Worms human and animal variety

    Hmmmmm think that's all.  We don't get sick that often so it's hard to remember back and think of what we've dealt with....but those are the things that really jump out at me for now.  Might think of others...

    So how does this work?

    First off-the one thing that isn't listed in my cupboard list (because no matter how I try he won't fit) is the amazing Dr John Rae.  Chiropractic care is a huge part of our families immune fighting system.  With proper spinal care your immune system is able to fight off infection much more quickly.  In fact one of the things that I and Cassidy had suffered from for pretty much our entire life times respectively was environmental allergies.  Both Cass and I were 24 hour allergy med poppers, about 2 months after starting a full care regiment with John, we were able to kick the Claritin to the curb and leave it there!

    Even with John's magic touch illness has creeped through so here's how we deal with it.

    #1-Having the proper nutrition going in is and can be the only cure you truly need to keep yourself healthy.  I am not going to go into the Isagenix details in this blog-you can go back and find that one and read if for yourself.  But with proper nutrition going in our bodies are able to ward off most infections and viruses.

    #2-By not treating each "illness" as the plague and in fact embracing it and letting it run it's course we have built up our bodies immune systems so that when we do run across something that sneaks in, we are able to fight it off much faster.

    I no longer look at the kids illnesses as something that HAS TO BE eradicated and quickly.  They are allowed to be sick.  I came to this brilliant thought while sitting through a lecture by the amazing Dr. Lawrence Palevsky.  If you're child has been sick you likely have been sent this link:

    Read it...what Dr. Larry says just makes sense!  It may sound very old wives taleish but it totally totally works!  This is the essence of how I as a mom of 5 kids has "treated" my family for the last 5 years.

    #3-As Dr Larry says-when we do get "sick" it's our body saying we need to clean out the junk.  While our family does this on a daily basis with the use of Isagenix Cleanse for Life, I also use the following regiments to aid in helping the junk get out.

    Oil Of Oregano-




    If you've known me for a while you should know what this is by now.  If we're just newly acquainted OoO

    In our house it is the be all end all it really is.  I remember finding out about OoO from a friend.  Once I started doing the research I was sort of convinced, but what totally convinced me was when Morgan woke up the day after a trek in the bush and was quite covered in Poison Ivy.  The summer before we had gone through this as well-it took almost 6 weeks for the infection to stop spreading and the scarring to heal.

    I did a quick search to see if PI was one of the things OoO was good for, of course it was.  Morgan's episode of PI lasted 8 days!!!  I wish now that I had taken pictures of it, but it was completely covering one side of his face, his arm and a large portion of his stomach and leg.  From break out to scars healed EIGHT DAYS!!!  I was sold, and have not been without it since.

    The next major curing episode for OoO was last winter (Feb 2011) when Kelsey came home with a sore throat.  She went on to tell me that her teacher had been off sick for a couple of days with strep throat.  I thought oh boy, this could get interesting.

    If for some reason you've ever looked in Kelsey's throat you have seen that her tonsils on a normal no infection present day are HUGE!  It's just the way they are, have been like that since she was born.  But when she gets a throat infection they can swell to the point that she can barely swallow.  As  a munchkin she was on the "one more bout and out they come" list.  Having had my tonsil out as a 7 year old we were not good with that decision, and said no to having them removed.

    So long story short....Kelsey's strep lasted 2 days of significant infection (you could actually see the pus pockets), including a low grade fever (101'F) and some fairly high pain, then it started to dissipate and was totally gone by day 5.  I've chatted with people in the last 2-3 months who are on their 2nd or 3rd round of antibiotics and are still suffering.  Once I have said OoO go get it, they have been done with the   infection within days.

    How do you take OoO?

    Well it can be taken in two ways, orally or topically.  Depending on what you are fighting I usually suggest both.

    My kids can NOT deal with the flavour-it's very very very very strong to say the least!  So also depending on the person depends on how it gets used.

    Ingestion:  1-2 drops daily will help keep things at bay.
    If you are sick, then I suggest upping that to 5 drops, my crazy husband has been known to use the full droppers worth-he really doesn't get sick very often!

    Topically:  3-4 drops mixed in with equal amount of olive oil, rub near the affected area-so if sore throat rub on throat, if couch rub on chest.

    For something like poison ivy, chicken pox, shingles etc, use 3-4 drops mixed with Olive Oil 2-3 times a day.  This will help kill off the bacteria faster as well as help to stop the spreading.

    All ages can use OoO, however, the caution goes out for little people under 5.  OoO is a very strong cleanser, so use only 1-2 drops with younger children.  Best way to use it for them is to put it on the soles of their feet.

    Drink lots so that your liver and kidney's flush out the toxins!

    Vitamin C 



    We have always taken vitamin C at our house as a way to help ward of winter not so friendly colds etc.  We've always however just followed the bottle directions and taken the 1 or 2 tablets that the label recommends.


    About a year ago I came across an article in regards to Vitamin C being the lost cure for diseases like cancer.  Boy did that spur on a fast search!  Turns out that in the 1930's vitamin c WAS being used to cure people who were literally at death's door.  Dr. F.R. Klenner used mega doses of IV infused vitamin c in the form of absorbic acid to cure polio patients, and went on to use it on other diseases like measles and chicken pox with 100% cure outcomes.

    Sooo I went on to do some more research into the use of vitamin c at high doses to deal with illnesses.  Turns out it's all amazing!  Our bodies need the absorbic acid found 'in' vitamin c to help us keep all of our body systems in line.  The RDA "recommend daily amount" is set around 90 mg for adults.  This is JUST enough to keep our bodies from going into scurvy, however to keep our body in proper levels we need much more.

    The best way to go about finding out how much you need is to do a Vitamin C flush.

    At our house, we all take at least 5000mgs of vitamin c a day.  Split into 3 or 4 doses.  If someone is showing signs of getting sick I up that dose following the directions for the flush and flush for at least 2 days.


    Other Stuff:

    OoO and Vitamin C are the two ways that we daily go about keeping bad stuff out of the body in our house.  BUT sometimes things sneak by.  Which like the article by Dr. Palevsky says is a sign that maybe something is a bit off in the immune system.

    I can usually pinpoint what it is especially on an individual basis.  We've gone on a milk binge is usually the first place I look, and clear out the milk for a few days.  Two of my kids have very obvious issues with milk that once it's out of their systems for a couple of days clear up very quickly (eczema being the most obvious).  Too much "junk food" from being over at a friends house is usually the next culprit, so that just takes time to reboot the system and things get better.

    In the last couple of weeks, I have had a bit of a cough.  That's where the Respiractin  http://www.respiractin.com/ comes in.  This is an amazing product whose recipe goes back a century.  It works on the lungs and helps to expel excess phlegm and mucous build up.  I have suggested this product to friends whose children have used asthma inhalers and they have found relief from needing the inhalers within 1-2 weeks.

    Nin Jiom http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nin_Jiom_Pei_Pa_Koa is the next cold and only "cough medicine" product that you will find in my house.  This recipe just like Respiractin is quite old, and in fact dates back 100+ years as well.

    Follow the directions for using the products as found on the label.

    Garlic

    This yummy herb is also classified as a medicine.  Only a few herbs can claim this.  Like OoO garlic can be used as an antibacterial, anti fungal, anti parasitic, topical pain reliever and an antibiotic to name a few of it's benefits.  It is also amazing for helping lower cholesterol and heart disease.

    We use A LOT of garlic at our house, (Ask anyone who has had my homemade Caesar salad dressing and you'll know just how much)  I'd say we use 50/50 raw vs cooked.  The raw is much better for you, but cooked is just as good.

    Sore throats-chew 1/2 clove of garlic and let the juice flow to the back of you throat.  Within about 5 minutes the pain will start to dissipate.

    Cough/Colds-chew a clove of garlic.  Best to do this on a full stomach.  The intensity of the raw garlic can cause tummy upsets.

    Over all health.  Just eat garlic it's good for you!!!!

    Honey

    Nature really does provide us with all we need to heal ourselves.  Honey is just another example of this.

    As a general rule honey is the sugar of choice for me for baking.  It is much healthier then processed sugar and has less effect on insulin levels.

    The most common way we use honey at home is for sore throats.  A spoonful after eating the clove of garlic is a great way to get rid of the taste of the garlic as well as help boost the immune system into action.

    A "hot toddy" of lemon, hot water, honey and alcohol such as rum is a great way to help relieve chest congestion.  Especially when combined with Respiractin and or Nin Jiom.

    Activated Charcoal

    AC is an emergency type item in my cupboard.  It helps most especially with bad tummy aches.  I firmly believe that if the stomach wants to get rid of something, it's a good idea to let it do just that.  But one can only vomit or have diarrhea episodes so many times and this can actually become dangerous if liquids don't want to stay down.


    For serious bouts of vomiting or diarrhea take 1-2 tablets.  If you have a tummy ache take 1.

    Like I said at the beginning of the blog, we used to inhale Tylenol and ibuprofen like they were candy.  Not a good idea.  Our first line of defence for headaches and other muscle aches and pains is to head to Dr John and have our spines/necks adjusted.  Most times this relieves the pain issue.


    However, I also have 3 very rambunctious sons, who have done stupid things like break bones, played punching games until bruises are left behind....you get the picture.


    That's where the arnica comes in.  We have it both in tablet and cream form.


    Essential Oils




    Each essential oil has it's own properties.  It would take me pages of blog to go over them.  So I am going to just touch on the ones that we use and the things we use them for.

    Head Lice:

    To say I HATE head lice is a mild statement indeed! Anyone who has had to deal with these pesky little creatures knows my pain!  We used to treat our kids with the horrid chemical products found at the pharmacy, but I got to the point that I was wondering if I could actually poison my kids with too much of it.  So I went hunting for natural alternatives.  This recipe is the most amazing thing every made in my kitchen-head lice gone and have not returned for 2 years!!!

    Combine equal drops of:

    Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil, Geranium Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Thyme Oil and Lemon Oil.

    Have this mixture on hand.  If you are dealing with a lice outbreak, take 4-5 drops and add into enough olive oil to coat hair.  Leave on for at least 2 hours and comb out using lice comb.  Get the nits!

    To use as a preventative, use a spritz bottle, add 4-5 drops of the oil mixture into 1 cup of water.  Spray on hair.  It actually has a fairly nice smell to it.

    Fleas:

    As a pet loving family and not wanting to add chemicals into my kids bodies, I also don't want to add them to my pets bodies.  Because animals, especially cats synthesize essential oils differently then humans you need to be careful as to how often you use these mixtures.

    For dogs:

    Combine equal drops of:

    Cedar Oil, Lavender Oil, Citronella Oil, Eucaplytpus Oil and Peppermint Oil.

    As a bath:  combine 3-4 drops of the oil mixture with 1/4 cup of Castille Soap.  (For large dogs use as much as 7 drops)  Shampoo dog and rinse gently.

    As a flea collar:  Use a cloth collar, drop 3-4 drops of the oil mixture on to the collar.  Repeat weekly.

    For Cats:

    Cats can not synthesize the lavender and peppermint oil as well as dogs.  Make the above recipe but for every 5 drops of the other oils only add 1 drop of peppermint and lavender oil.  Bath your cat (have fun with that) and place 1-2 drops on to their fabric collar.  Repeat biweekly if you have an infestation, monthly as a preventative.



    So that's about that.  You may think that in order to stay healthy we use alot of industrial cleaners and antibacterials around the house.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  See my previous blog on Detoxing your house to see what I use as cleaners at home.
